Petition Officials

We Must Stand United & Fight for America Now!

Never before have American citizens had so much to lose from the promised actions of our own government! Petitions to legislators and bureaucratic leaders are an essential part of activism.

Pledge of Resistance to Donald Trump’s Assault on America’s Environment, Democracy and Civil Rights

Take the Pledge to Defend America's Natural ResourcesSponsored by The Center for Biological Diversity:

I pledge to stand in resistance to Donald Trump’s assault on America’s clean air, clean water, climate, wildlife, civil rights, reproductive rights, gender and racial equality, and freedom of speech and religion.

I pledge to stand in solidarity with those threatened by violence and intimidation because of who they are, what they believe or their opposition to Trump’s dangerous agenda.

Donald Trump is an unprecedented threat to our nation’s democracy, health and environment. He must not be allowed to dismantle the Environmental Protection Agency, gut the Clean Air and Endangered Species acts, raid our public lands, eliminate regulations protecting poor communities from pollution, deport millions of people, take away our reproductive freedom, or force millions to live in fear.

I pledge to resist Trump through action.

I pledge to speak out, make phone calls, sign petitions, join rallies, support conservation and civil rights groups, educate my family and friends, and keep a compassionate, loving heart while fighting fiercely for the values I cherish most.

Support Limiting Inhumane Federal Trapping for Public Safety Act

Take action here — to urge your representative in Congress to cosponsor the Limiting Inhumane Federal Trapping for Public Safety Act (H.R. 5954, introduced by Rep. Earl Blumenauer, D-Ore.), which would at last help stop this unnecessary killing across a vast swath of federal lands.

Cruel and dangerous traps have no place on federal lands set aside for conservation and recreation, such as the millions of acres within our national wildlife refuges and national forests.

Yet government trappers continue to target animals like wolves, coyotes and mountain lions, even though research shows that eradicating these ecologically essential predators to protect livestock is simply a bad idea. And commercial trappers are still allowed to use federal lands to kill foxes, beavers and other wildlife for their fur.

Captured animals suffer excruciating pain for hours or even days before a trapper returns, and many die from dehydration, injuries or predation. These traps are also indiscriminate — capable of seriously injuring people and pets if hidden along popular trails or waterways.

H.R. 5954 covers three types of body-gripping traps: Conibear traps that are designed to break an animal’s spinal column, strangulation snares that operate by suffocation, and leghold traps that clamp down on animals’ limbs with metal jaws and can lead to fractures, severed ligaments, or even amputation.

The bill would also prohibit personnel from the USDA and DOI from using these brutal traps, including personnel from the USDA’s “Wildlife Services.” Incredibly, just last year, Wildlife Services killed over three million animals, including 385 wolves, 284 mountain lions, 480 black bears, 68,905 coyotes, 731 bobcats and 3,437 foxes.

Read H.R. 5954 and follow its progress here!

Don’t Let Gas and Oil Companies Kill Endangered Bats!

Don't Let Gas & Oil Companies Kill Endangered BatsA new proposal would let gas and oil companies kill Pennsylvania’s endangered bats by destroying their habitats as part of the construction process.

Nine gas and oil companies have requested an Incidental Take Permit, which would exempt them from endangered species protection laws. This would allow them to kill five species of endangered bats over a period of 50 years as a casualty of their construction process.

Many of these bats have already declined in numbers from disease and human activity. For example, white nose disease has recently killed a whopping 98 percent of Pennsylvania’s hibernating bats.

Pennsylvania needs increased protections to save their endangered bats. Granting an Incidental Take Permit could push bat populations over the edge. Please sign the petition to urge the Fish and Wildlife Service to put our native wildlife above big business and reject proposals to kill endangered bats!
